The Puente de Occidente, so named because it is located in western Antioquia, Colombia, is a suspension bridge that connects the municipalities of Olaya and Santa Fe de Antioquia, east and west of the Cauca River, respectively. At the time it was considered the seventh largest suspension bridge worldwide.
Tour of the suspension bridge
Enjoy an incredible experience on the suspension bridge of Santa Fe de Antioquia, a unique experience that offers a breathtaking view of the nature of Antioquia. The suspension bridge dates back to 1907 and is the largest suspension bridge in Colombia. The tour begins with a walk from the Santa Fe de Antioquia lookout point to the bridge. Once on the bridge, you have a panoramic view of the city and the Cauca River. After enjoying the view, continue through the Ruta del Sol, which crosses the municipalities of Sopetrán, Olaya and San Jerónimo.
This route takes you through mountain roads and villages where you can see the culture, food and customs. After passing through these villages, you arrive at the viewpoint of the suspension bridge again. The trip ends with a ride on the Cauca River in a boat to finish the tour.
